REGIO funding for the "Assumption of the Virgin Mary" Cathedral in Satu Mare

The "Assumption of the Virgin Mary I" Orthodox Parish Satu Mare signed the financing contract through ROP 2014-2020 for the restoration and rehabilitation of the "Adormirea Maicii Domnului" Cathedral. The project is financed under Priority Axis 5, Investment Priority 5.1. Conservation, protection, promotion and development of natural and cultural heritage. The total value of the project is 3,275,746.33 lei, 98% of the amount representing the non-refundable financing.

The general objective of the project is the sustainable capitalization of the Orthodox Cathedral of the Dormition of the Mother of God, in order to increase the tourist attractiveness at the local and regional level, as a factor that stimulates economic growth in the implementation area.

The implementation period is 18 months from the date of signing the contract, and until the end of the project the beneficiary aims to increase the number of visitors by 8% every year.

The Orthodox Cathedral was built between 1932-1937, according to the plans of the Bucharest architect GP Liteanu, who designed several buildings of the city of Satu Mare. The architecture of the cathedral resembles the churches of Oltenia and Muntenia, harmoniously combining the Byzantine style with the Brancove style.
