Trans border cooperation

The fundamental objective of trans-border cooperation in the EU is the integration of the areas separated by national borders, but that face common problems which require common solutions. The trans-border cooperation has as a main priority the increase of the level of competitiveness in the border regions; moreover, it contributes to the economic and social integration of the adjacent border areas, because there are significant disparities between them.
The NUTS 3 regions along the borders (between 150000 and 800000 inhabitants, the equivalent of the counties in Romania) are eligible within the trans-border cooperation programmes. In the North-West Region (Northern Transylvania) there are two programmes on the trans-border cooperation component: The IEVP Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine Trans-border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013 and The European Programme for Territorial Cooperation Hungary-Romania 2007-2013.
Among the activities taken into consideration there are those that encourage the knowledge and know-how transfer, the development of the economical trans-border activities, the exploitation of the trans-border potential in fields such as education/training ans health, partnership management of environmental problems and of common threats.
