Regional Innovation Strategy for the North-West Region (Northern Transylvania) –REGIS NW

The North-West Regional Development Agency launched at a regional level, on the 3rd of May 2006, the project “Regional Innovation Strategy for the North-West Region” –REGIS NW. The project is financed by the European Commission through the Framework Project 6, together with other 33 projects in Europe. After the official launch of this generation of RIS projects at an European level, in June 2005, the North-West Development Region in Romania becomes a member of the association IRE “Innovating Regions in Europe”, joining this network that has a total of over 200 “innovating” regions.

The REGIS NW project will generate the first regional innovating strategy that will be elaborated and implemented in the North-West Region. After the experience of the West Regional Development Agency, that implemented a RIS project in the period 2002-2005, other 5 Regional Development Agencies in Romania won RIS projects for their regions, which places our country on the second place in Europe, after Poland, as number of RIS projects from the last generation, won through the Framework Programme 6.
The REGIS-NW project is implemented in the context in which the European Union aimed at becoming until 2010 “the most competitive and dynamic economy in the world, based on knowledge (the Lisbon Agenda 2000). Innovation and entrepreneurship represent strategic directions at an European level, “especially by the creation of stable connections between the research institutes and the industry, thus creating favourable conditions for Research and Development” ((European Guidelines 2007-2013).
